Photo Gallery

The Birds SA Photo Gallery has been set up to make available photographs taken mainly by our members with an emphasis on birds from Australia and its Territories. All photos in the Photo Gallery are posted with the understanding that images may be shared under the Birds SA image policy and other creative works.

The aim is to show as many species and subspecies as possible in their various forms, life stages and habitats. All species are displayed alphabetically with species common name, scientific name, family, locality, date photographed, photographer and camera details.

The photo gallery is ordered into non-passerines and passerine birds species. Passerines are perching birds like songbirds - they have three toes forward and one toe backwards. Non-Passerines are all the other birds in Australia from Ostrich to Budgerigar.

(Names sources: South Australian species: Annotated List of the Birds of South Australia #5.1 by Horton, P., Blaylock, B. and Black, A. (2020). Outside of SA - the IOC World List (V15.1) by Gill F., Donsker, D. & Rasmussen, P. (Eds). (2025).
