Birds SA is the oldest ornithological association in Australia, founded in 1899.
Today, it is one of the largest not-for-profit environmental NGOs in South Australia with 800 members.
Join us to enjoy birdwatching, the outdoors, and conserve birds!
What We Do
We're here to encourage you to watch birds in South Australia's great outdoors, promote their conservation and support science in all aspects of bird life. Membership is open to both serious and casual bird watchers, and any age is welcomed.
Birding In South Australia
For some people bird watching simply offers a good excuse to connect with nature, and other people, to go outdoors and ‘stretch the legs’. For others, the challenge of the chase, of observing and identifying a new bird for the first time, provides a real thrill. For some, bird watching is their profession; these ornithologists study birds in great detail to gather information to help conserve our birds. The beauty of birds in South Australia is that they can be seen and heard everywhere – not just out in the bush – but also in our gardens.
